In addition to these statewide races, North Carolina also has ballot issues for voters to consider. Below is a list of the ballot issues and what they would do if passed:

Issue 1: Repeal the Racial Discrimination Statute
If passed, this issue would repeal section 15B-4 of the North Carolina Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin in public places and public employment. This repeal would allow businesses and individual citizens to discriminate against people based on those factors.

Issue 2: Allow Local Governments to Ban Gay Marriage
This issue would allow local governments to ban same-sex marriage through their municipal ordinances. If passed, this law would override any state or federal law that opposes same-sex marriage.

This issue would repeal all death penalty laws in North Carolina. If passed, this proposal would end the practice of capital punishment in North Carolina permanently.

Issue 4: Expand Medicaid
If passed, this issue would expand Medicaid to provide health coverage to low-income North Carolinians. This proposal would increase the number of people who are eligible for Medicaid by more than 400,000 people.

Issue 5: Allow North Carolina to Opt Out of the Affordable Care Act
